Gaydos to Conduct Live Telephone Town Hall Meeting Aug. 26
HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) will host a telephone town hall meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The representative will be discussing mental health risks and concerns during the coronavirus pandemic. Gaydos will be joined by Dr. Tim Murphy, PhD, a licensed psychologist, specializing in resilience and recovery.
“I would like to invite constituents in the 44th Legislative District to participate in my telephone town hall meeting, where calls are received at home and everyone can participate without having to leave the house,” said Gaydos. “Dr. Murphy and I will be discussing the disruptive effects of the academic year on children, the stress on special needs caretakers and the isolation of the elderly due to COVID-19.”
Gaydos added that results of a recent survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirm that the ongoing pandemic is significantly harming Americans’ mental health. In late June, approximately two in five adults surveyed said they were struggling with mental health or substance abuse problems. The hardest hit were younger adults, racial/ethnic minorities, essential workers, and those with pre-existing psychiatric conditions.
Residents who would like to participate in the telephone town hall meeting can do so by calling 1-877-229-8493 toll free and entering the code 118497 anytime between 6:45-7:45 p.m. on Aug. 26.
“The convenience of this program allows a large number of people to be able to participate at the same time,” said Gaydos. “It is not a free-for-all with folks all talking over each other. It is more like a radio call-in show – If you have a question or comment you will first talk to someone else to make sure that the questions do not duplicate each other and are relevant to the topics being discussed.”
