HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) has asked House Health Committee Chairman Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) to schedule a public hearing to demand greater transparency from the Department of Health with respect to the inputs and criteria used by the governor and the department in making decisions regarding COVID-19. Chairman Rapp has confirmed a hearing will be scheduled in the near future.
“While everyday Pennsylvanians have sacrificed a great deal and followed the department’s directives remarkably well, the public has been left in the dark about how those directives are created,” said Gaydos.
This call for a hearing comes after Gaydos sent a letter to Department of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine on May 11 to formally request specific information pertaining to which individuals and data sources the department consults in creating its mitigation plans.
Levine failed to adequately respond to this inquiry.
“This kind of vagueness from the department is unacceptable, and as a member of the Health Committee, I am requesting immediate hearings to address these uncertainties and get my constituents the answers they are entitled to.”
