Gaydos Applauds State Grant for Leetsdale History Initiative
June 6, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today announced the Borough of Leetsdale has been awarded a $14,987 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) to support historic preservation efforts in the community.
“This funding is a great opportunity for Leetsdale to preserve its rich history while laying the foundation for future revitalization and community pride,” said Gaydos. “I’m proud to support efforts that recognize and protect the cultural and historical assets of our region.”
The funding will support the Leetsdale Historical Resource Survey, a project aimed at identifying and documenting the borough’s historic resources. The initiative will result in the creation of a geodatabase, a comprehensive survey report and strategic recommendations to guide future preservation efforts.
The project will aid in the development of Leetsdale’s first historic preservation ordinance, evaluate the eligibility of local resources for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, and launch historic and cultural outreach programming. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to qualify the borough for Certified Local Government designation, which could open the door to additional preservation funding and support in the future.
The PHMC grant program is a competitive funding opportunity that supports historical and cultural preservation initiatives across the Commonwealth.
