MOON TOWNSHIP – In order to prevent personal information from being used fraudulently, Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) will be hosting an Identity Theft and Shredding Event with Moon Township on Saturday, June 15, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
The event will be held at the parking lot of Moon Area Middle School, 904 Beaver Grade Road, Moon Township.
“Identity theft is a fast-growing crime, and one of the greatest precautions we can take to protect our identity is to properly dispose of documents containing sensitive and personal information, such as Social Security numbers and credit card statements,” said Gaydos. “This free event gives residents a safe and secure way to destroy documents containing their personal and financial data.”
Residents are encouraged to shred documents that include credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information.
Additionally, Deputy Sherriff Joseph Cirigliano from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department will be on site collecting unused medication for project DUMP (Disposal of Unused/Expired Medications Properly).
An industrial shredder will be on site to securely shred any documents. Phonebooks, newspapers and bound books cannot be accepted. Please limit your shredding materials to three small boxes per car. You will be given back your boxes or bags for your disposal. This event is for individuals only, no businesses.
For more information about the event, please call Gaydos’ district office at 412-262-3780.
