Gaydos Announces Area Career and Technical Center Receives Grant
11/19/2020
HARRISBURG – Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) announced today that the Parkway West Career and Technology Center will receive a $49,700 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand occupations.

The purpose of the Career and Technical Education Equipment grant is to purchase equipment aligned with the needs of local employers for use in PDE-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and to provide hands-on training to students in those programs.

“It’s a priority to offer multiple avenues for students to demonstrate educational achievement, particularly students enrolled in career and technical education,” said Gaydos. “Commonsense education policies like this will grow our economy by diversifying the workforce and encouraging students to obtain training in various trade occupations.”

Under the program, the maximum grant is $50,000, and each grant must be matched dollar-for-dollar from a local source which could include local school funds or contributions from businesses and industry partners.

“This grant is a huge victory for students, education and businesses, thereby providing everyone greater opportunities for success,” said Gaydos.

Almost $1.2 million in competitive grants were awarded to 32 career and technical centers and Area Vocational-Technical Education Schools across the state.
